Laws and Criminals

What are your thoughts concerning this quote?

“There’s no way to rule innocent people. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one MAKES them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for people to live without breaking laws.”

    Who said that?

Sounds like the setup for an argument in favor of legalizing marajuana. I’d have to disagree with this idea. I think that government certainly flexes its muscles most visibly when members of the public are seen handcuffed and imprisoned. But, the innumerable services provided to the citizenry by government can’t be boiled down to handing out fines and imprisoning felons. Mail service, public libraries, welfare services, county clinics, etc. These are some of the services provided by government, but don’t forget that so much of the private sector is subsidized by our government. Some may believe that government is a Big Brother looking to step on anyone who walks out of line. But in America, today, how can anyone beyond the years of adolescence really hold that belief?

I’m not sure who said this. I pulled it off of someone’s fb status pg.

Thanks for posting your thoughts. I’m always interested in hearing what others have to say on certain questionable quotes or subjects.

    Don’t be a stranger.
